Learning to tattoo begins long before working on real skin. It starts with drawing, understanding the equipment, practising basic movements, and learning how to work safely. No previous drawing or tattooing experience is required. The course is designed to help students build their skills step by step, from their first practice lines to the beginning of a personal tattoo portfolio.
The Mayink fine-line tattoo course guides beginners through this process over three months and 88 hours of in-person training. With only one to three participants in each group, students receive individual guidance throughout the course.

Start with the Basics
The first module combines drawing and tattoo practice.
Students work on basic linework, shapes, and shading while learning how tattoo machines, needles, and other equipment are used. They also practise setting up a hygienic workstation, preparing stencils, and creating simple designs in Procreate.
Drawing and tattooing are developed alongside each other. A student might first practise a shape on paper, prepare it digitally, and then repeat the same movement on fake skin.
Build Control on Fake Skin
Once students understand the basic process, the focus moves towards machine control and complete designs.
They practise straight, curved, and circular lines, as well as basic shading and black-and-grey ink mixing. The exercises gradually develop into mini tattoos, lettering, floral designs, and larger illustrative pieces.
Fake skin provides a safe space to experiment with:
- Hand speed and stability
- Line consistency
- Machine angle and movement
- Stencil placement
- Basic shading
- Different design sizes
This stage helps students connect drawing, digital design, setup, linework, and shading into one complete tattooing process.
From Practice to Portfolio
During the final part of the course, students bring together the skills they have developed.
They may work on mini tattoos, lettering, larger designs, or an approved original flash piece. Each project includes preparation, setup, tattooing, aftercare, and individual feedback from the instructor.
Students can also begin documenting their progress through drawings, digital designs, fake-skin exercises, and completed tattoo projects.
These pieces form the beginning of a portfolio that reflects both technical development and personal direction.
